I live on the Canary Island of Tenerife since more than 10 years and I spend thousands of hours on the shore and on boats fishing for predator fish. Usually I do not fish with bait, but with jigs, rapalla or other artificial lures, trying to convince one of the big predators to bite.
Yellowfin Tuna
Yellowfin tuna are caught in Tenerife all year round. Mostly by trolling. Tuna season in Tenerife is in the winter, from January to May.
Amberjack
Amberjacks are often caught while jigging in Tenerife. These predators are usually found on the bottom or in midwater and put up a fierce fight.
Wahoo
The search for wahoo (also known as peto or black marlin) is most successful when using large lures for fast trolling.
Grouper
In the Canary Islands, the best way to catch grouper is on the bottom using rubber lures. It’s a fantastic, delicious fish—especially if you’d like to use your catch.
